Things that causes Brain Damage

Whilst there are many who has hereditary brain problems or who have acquired neurological problems via some unknown or unexplained reason, I have, in my few years of practice, seen where brain damages could have been perfectly avoidable. These occur mostly in the event of a head injury. Some of these injuries are sometimes innocent while others are deliberate. With a few healthy habits that go beyond just healthy eating, people can help to prevent harm to their brain by practicing a healthy lifestyle. Healthy habits include taking care of self n surrounding. Some things to avoid is skipping your breakfast in the morning or overeating. These can cause damage to the brain because of the mixed signals that are sent. Skipping meals means a lesser amount of nutrients going to the brain. This in turn lowers the blood supply and oxygen levels. Smoking and intake of too much sugar are also high factors for brain problems. Environmental factors also causes involuntary harm to our brains namely, air pollution. Air pollution leads to oxygen deficiency in the brain because of the space pollutants take up when we are breathing in oxygen. It goes to show that taking care of ourselves and by extension, the environment can alleviate our health problems and boost brain functions.

Problems that can be solved via Neurosurgery

Most persons are afraid of brain surgery for many reasons. They always believe that brain surgery is a complicated process that can go wrong with just a tiny error. Well most people are right but truth is almost most surgical procedures are like this. Neurosurgery is no different. But why would anyone need such a complicated surgery such as neurosurgery? Some of the most common reason for undergoing brain surgery is a concussion or other kinds of trauma to the head. Neurosurgery is also one on persons with brain tumor and other disorders that are brain related. Some people need to realize that in our hands we hold the key to help solving many disorders. Some are preventative others are just caused by accidents. Nonetheless surgical brain surgical procedures are done with careful hands that know the importance of the brain being one of the most important organs in the body.

How to tell if you have a Brain Tumor

I have literally seen patients faint at just the mere word “tumor” and time and time again I have had to explain that there are two different types of tumors; benign and malignant. Benign tumors are not cancerous and are common while malignant tumors are more dangerous as they are cancerous. Whatever the case, I have realized that even with an explanation most of my patients believe that tumors are just plain bad news. It is a sign that something is wrong with your cells. Tumors form when the normal cycle of life for cells becomes disrupted. These are one common symptoms that might include; Headaches, Nausea,   memory problems, numbness in the limbs. There might be some other reasons why persons experience these symptoms and the list is by no way exhaustive. To be properly diagnosed by a trained doctor. Brain tumor is diagnosed based on a number of tests which includes first and foremost a neurological exam. There might be further follow ups with an MRI and CT Scan. If you are experiencing one or more of these symptoms, it doesn’t mean you have a brain tumor but to be certain, a check-up is highly recommended.

Ways to Boost Brain Power

There are many ways to improve the brain functions. Some of these include avoiding pollutants, eating healthier and indulging in creative thinking. While some are easier to achieve, others might not be as expected. Eating healthy is a great way to ensure your brain gets the nutrient that the body needs. The healthier you eat the more oxygen will be circulated in the brain. This optimizes the brain functi9ons making you think quicker. Avoiding pollutants might not be easy but staying away from exhausts and areas know to have excess pollution if possible. Engaging in activities that gets the blood flowing in the brain will also optimize the brain’s performance.

How the Brain works

The brain is one of the most significant parts of the body. It works by transmitting information to other parts of the body. The brain also has the ability to store and recall information when needed.  The brain receives information and then sends them to the relevant parts of the body. Parts of the body also send signals to the brain. For example, the brain receives information when we are hot or cold. The brain and the central nervous system have to receive the required amount of oxygen in order to function properly. The brain helps the body to maintain balance and to function properly.

What are the most dangerous brain diseases?

People always assume that every disease of the brain is near fatal or fatal but this is not true. Not to make brain disease look like a mere common cold, I do admit that it does hold a degree of seriousness. Most fatal brain diseases are rare.  For example, the Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease causes a rare folding of brain cells that inevitably leads to death. This disease is untreatable and is popularly known as mad cow disease. People become infected when they eat meat from an animal infected with a diseased protein called spongiform encephalopathy. Another fatal but rare disease is an infection of the amoeba. the single celled organism enters the body through the nose and immediately destroys the brain tissues. Death is usually within three days. One disease of the brain that is also deadly is Huntington’s Chorea. The difference with Huntington Chorea is that it is inherited. This disease is carried down by the gene of the affected parent. It causes loss of the basic functions of the brain such as movement. Most of these diseases are not curable but there are brain diseases that with proper medication, the symptoms can be minimized for (eg. Alzheimers) which causes dementia and loss of memory.
